Overview

Jazz is the only uniquely American art form.  It is music of social, cultural and artistic integration and a powerful tool in enhancing cognitive and educational development.  It is also accessible music that can inspire greater cultural and musical literacy.

Founded in 2007 by internationally renowned saxophonist Bennie Wallace to address declining support for music and arts programs across the country, Backcountry Jazz strives to become a model that will be replicated both nationally and internationally.

Mission

The mission of Backcountry Jazz is to present concerts and educational programs by celebrated  jazz artists and use the transformative power of music to catalyze change in both individuals and communities.  BCJ works collaboratively with partner organizations to invigorate the community educationally and socially, while building future audiences for America’s unique cultural heritage.  Through concerts, educational programs and scholarships, Backcountry Jazz makes significant contributions to building stronger communities.
